3,200 Drones Gather For Performance
2023-12-12 11:00On the evening of December 8, 2023, the internationally renowned artist Cai Guo-Qiang performed a drone fireworks show "Mirage: Blasting Plan for the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Cai Guo-Qiang Contemporary Art Center" on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and between the sea and the sky at the Cai Guo-Qiang Contemporary Art Center.
This performance was initiated by Chinese artist Cai Guoqiang and invited Frank Gehry, known as the "Picasso of architecture", for conceptual design. In Quanzhou, the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on the "Golden Coast", one of the "eight most beautiful coastlines in China", a landmark building like the Sydney Opera House will be built, which will become Quanzhou's gift to the next millennium.
The performance lasted 20 minutes and brought together a total of 3,200 drones. The five-act performance wowed countless audiences one after another. The first act is "Two Towers Spread Eastward". Under the quiet night sky over Quanzhou Bay, a swarm of drones with LED lights formed twin towers in the sky, coming leisurely from the east and west towers to the Contemporary Art Center, and hovering over the land of the Contemporary Art Center. The second act is "Gehry's Manuscript". At this time, the night sky is paper, and the lights on the drone light up one after another, as if Master Gehry is waving his hand to draw the undulating design manuscript and signature of the Quanzhou Contemporary Art Center. The third act is "Mirage". In the vast starry sky, high-altitude fireworks bombs create a sky full of dazzling stars, making the night look like day. The fourth act is "The city is filled with eryngium flowers". Cai Guoqiang specially developed the "Erythronium Flower" fireworks for his hometown of Quanzhou, allowing the layers of Erythrina flowers composed of thousands of fireworks to bloom, symbolizing climbing and upward growth! The fifth act is the "finale". Thousands of white flashes of thunder brought about bursts of heavenly drums. In the last loud noise, silver carps swam between the sea and the sky, and the sky reflected the sea like a mirror.
This performance not only allowed more audiences to see the beautiful fireworks blooming, but also allowed more people to understand that drone performances, as a new type of performance, can bring greater surprises to the audience.
